Do animals maintain complex, long-term relationships like we do? Are birds truly monogamous?
One of the essential characteristics of life is the ability to reproduce and continue the existence of the species; so it's no wonder animals invest great effort in raising offspring. Every animal has its own reproductive mechanism.
Some animals invest great effort in impressive courtship rituals and find new mates each breeding season. Others return to raise offspring in fixed pairs year after year.
There are animals with a very high reproductive rate — each season they produce a large number of offspring but don't raise them at all. On the other hand, there are animals that care for a single offspring for many years.
During the tour we'll meet diverse animals and different reproductive tactics. We'll learn about the "handicap principle" through the beautiful, cumbersome tails of peacocks and the large, heavy antlers of deer. We'll get to know animals with sexual dimorphism, such as the impressive lion and the plain-looking lionesses, and examine the reasons for the differences between them. We'll discover the various courtship displays animals use to impress one another.
