Nature Conservation

Nature is home to all of us — plants, animals, and humans. Every living creature affects its surroundings and the animals near it. Humans are the main influence (for better or worse), and so it's our role to protect nature.
Through a world-spanning opening game, we'll understand how we affect what happens in faraway countries and learn how each of us can help.
The zoo is a partner in environmental efforts in Israel and worldwide. During the tour we'll visit the fallow deer exhibit and hear their fascinating story — about their extinction in Israel about a century ago and the zoo's reintroduction project, thanks to which fallow deer have returned to the country's landscapes.
We'll visit the penguin exhibit and hear how zoo staff helped rehabilitate a local penguin colony in South Africa after an oil spill disaster from a tanker. We'll observe the bird species roaming around the zoo and learn which of them are invasive species and how they affect Israeli nature.
