Guided Tours

Parents and Offspring

Who are the most devoted parents in the animal kingdom? Do animals in nature learn from their parents too?
The continuation of a species depends on the survival of its offspring, and animals have various strategies to increase their offspring's chances of survival. For example, butterflies lay hundreds of eggs but don't care for their offspring. In contrast, an orangutan gives birth to one cub every 8 years and cares for it devotedly.
During the tour we'll visit various offspring born at the zoo, meeting offspring that resemble their parents and others that look very different from them. We'll learn about the different types of offspring, the difference between a hatchling and a chick, about mammals and marsupials, and what birds and reptiles have in common.
