Maras live in permanent couples. Many couples may gather in areas with lots of vegetation.
Interesting To Know
Despite its resemblance to the rabbit, the mara is a relative of the Guinea pig and the capybara, part of the Rodents order.
At the zoo, research has been conducted on the interesting behavior of the mara, such as raising the offspring of several couples together in the same burrow. Each couple cares for its offspring and identifies them by unique smell and sounds.
