Typhlocaris galilea is a species of blind crustacean that lives in only one underground spring on the northern edge of the Sea of Galilee.
Following a request from the Nature and Parks Authority to the Biblical Zoo regarding assistance with conserving the species, it was decided to establish a breeding nucleus at the zoo in the "Story of a Drop" complex, behind the scenes. The nucleus was established by transferring individuals from the wild to the zoo, as a backup. This backup served as a kind of "safe" for preserving these unique crustaceans.
The threat to Typhlocaris galilea has grown due to continued drought and deepening of drilling for water supply in the northern Sea of Galilee.
After several years, it was decided to end the project in 2014.
