Galilee Blind Shrimp (Typhlocaris galilea)

The Galilee Blind Shrimp is a species of blind shrimp that lives only in one underground spring on the northern shores of the Sea of Galilee.

Following a request from the Israel Nature and Parks Authority to the Biblical Zoo, regarding assistance on the subject of conserving the Galilee Blind Shrimp, it was decided to establish a breeding core at the zoo in the "Story of a Drop" complex, behind the scenes. The core was established by transferring individuals from the wild to the zoo, for the purpose of backup. This backup served as a kind of "safe" for the conservation of these unique shrimps.

The threat to the Galilee Blind Shrimp grew due to the continuation of the drought and the deepening of the drillings for water supply in the north of the Sea of Galilee.

After several years, it was decided to end the project in 2014.
