Ellie Neuman, Jerusalem Biblical Zoo's coordinator of animal welfare training and enrichment, tells us about training the animals at the Jerusalem zoo.
Training zoo animals to participate in their own care is one of the best ways we can ensure that the animals are healthy and that they have a good quality of life. We use positive reinforcement, teaching the animals a sound (a "bridge") that means they have done the right thing and their favourite food is coming.
