In the complex and multicultural mosaic of Jerusalem, the zoo plays a particularly special role and has a unique status. Jews and Arabs, secular and religious, young and old -- everyone, regardless of religion, gender, nationality, or whatever -- is made to feel welcome here. To love animals, to be fascinated by them, to strive for their protection -- these are human passions that know no boundaries; they are expressed in every culture and language, and they are common to every faith and every belief system.
The Tisch Family Zoological Gardens is keenly aware of the opportunities at its doorstep for building bridges between diverse populations. This job is not restricted to activities that can be conducted on location at the zoo itself. And so, when activities relating to nature conservation take place within Jerusalem's greater community, the zoo is happy to act both as a participant and a leader.
The zoo attaches great importance to its role as an educator. Pure entertainment is also a form of education, and the zoo obviously provides plenty of that. But we are equally determined to enhance our visitors' awareness of important issues, namely the protection of animals, the preservation of wildlife, and the safeguarding of the environment as a whole. By promoting a host of educational activities and outreach programs, the zoo is proving itself to be an active participant in both nationwide and worldwide efforts on behalf of the environment.

The zoo's Educational Division conducts activities in many subject areas. Our activities are recreational and suitable for all age groups. Apart from that, they're invariably filled with action, excitement, and good, clean fun! The sessions involve observations of animals and physical contact with them, in addition to games and other activities that take place throughout the length and breadth of the zoo's beautiful grounds. For information about our after-school activities, summer camps, guided tours, and other group activities, please contact Tova Bar-Nir, the director of the Educational Division, at telephone (02) 675-0122 or e-mail tova_bar@jerusalemzoo.org.il
