Common crowned-pigeon
Scientific name: Goura cristata
Situation in wild: vulnerable
Jerusalem zoo: 1 pair
The habitat and distribution of the Common crowned-pigeon are tropical forests in the island of New-Guinea, which lies near Australia, and in several other small islands. The crowned-pigeon is vulnerable because of habitat destruction (logging and forest clearing) and extensive hunting for its feathers. They eat mostly fruit and seeds. The Common crowned-pegeon can be seen in the Australian exhibit at the zoo – at the bat enclosure.
