Alpacas are members of the camel family. Alpaca wool is very fine, soft, dense and rich with 22 natural colors. It is hollow with very warm isolative properties. Alpacas are herbivores and mostly eat different kinds of grass and hey. These animals are social, herd animals that live in family groups consisting of a territorial male, females and their young. Alpacas were domesticated about 5000 years ago by the natives of the Andean highlands of South America. Hybridization between Wild Vicura and domesticated Llama may be the source of the Alpaca. Alpacas were selected to be very gentle and easy to take care of and to improve quality of wool. This is why, today, Alpacas are raised all over the world, including Israel, as wool providers and pets.
